Tasmania MOUNT NELSON SIGNAL STATION 700a Nelson Road, Mount Nelson. (03) 6223 3407. The site of a semaphore station in the 19th century, Mount Nelson gets far less fanfare than Hobart’s dominating Mount impressive. The Mount Nelson Signal Station dining room wraps around the building’s original verandah, offering views of the city and eastern suburbs in one direction and a panorama of Storm Bay and the northern tip of Bruny Island in the other. Although best known as a tearoom, the menu has been substantially expanded. A small selection of mains includes locally caught fish and chips, portehouse steak, cooked with fresh ingredients.
